Snow Tal Trek

Meander through lush Himalayan meadows, pet sheep on the way, and encounter numerous frozen tarns (mountain ponds) till you reach the mother of them all- the Sour Tal Frozen Lake. Explore the enchanting beauty of  the Kullu valley, behold the unparalleled vistas of the Dhauladhar range and traverse the high altitude Kaliheyni (4350 mts.) pass.

This region is a photographer’s paradise, unspoilt by the teeming hordes. You won’t come across human  habitation for miles, except for Bhada Bhangal, the ancient dwelling of the Gaddi sheep herders. These Himalayan herders remain in this quaint hamlet snow bound for five months a year. Come talk to them and learn about their unique lifestyle…in the midst of towering Himalayan peaks and evergreen conifers. If you are lucky, you might even get to spot a bear or an ibex.

Camp Programme (Summer'10) - PUNE DEPARTURE

Age Group 13 to 18 yrs.
 

Day 1

For Batches leaving on 4, 11, 18 and 25 May

Pune campers to report at the Main Porch of Pune Railway Station at 1430 hrs.
Depart from Pune by Nizamuddin Express (Train No.2147) at 1600 hrs.

For Batches leaving on 9 and 16 May

Pune campers to report at the Main Porch of Pune Railway Station at 1600 hrs.
Depart from Pune by Jhelum Express (Train No.1077) at 1720 hrs.
Day 2 Arrive Nizamuddin at 1700 hrs and transfer to the AC bus for Manali.
Day 3 Arrive at Prini campsite in Manali around 1100 hrs and settle down. Briefing and orientation. Issue of equipment - Rucksack and Windproof Jacket.
Day 4 Acclimatisation trek to Arjun Gufa and Takshnak Nag Temple. Overnight at base camp.
Day 5 Trek - Base Camp, Prini to Shaleen Village (2150m) 4hrs. Explore the rustic village.
Day 6 Trek - Shaleen to Bran Phath (2650m) 5 hrs. Trek through Pinewoods and Silver Fir Forest.
Day 7 Trek - Bran Phath to Mahili Thach (3200m.) 4hrs. Enchanting view of Dhauladhar range.
Day 8 Trek - Mahili Thach to the frozen Sour Tal Lake (3700m) 4 hrs and back to Laangha Thach (3370m) 2hrs. Enjoy awesome views of Deo Tibba, Inderkilla, Rohtang Pass..
Day 9 Trek - Laangha Thach to Klount (2230m) 4hrs. Camp in the mountain meadows of Klount.
Day 10 Trek - Klount to Base Camp Prini via Kanyal village 3hrs. Back to civilization.
Day 11 After packing in the morning, visit Manali town for shopping and fast food.
Depart for Delhi in the evening.
Day 12 Board Goa Express (Train No.2780) at 1500 hrs. at Nizamuddin Station.
Day 13 Arrive Pune at 1620 hrs. Please check the exact time of arrival with the railway authorities.

Camp Programme (Summer'10) - MUMBAI/PUNE DEPARTURE
 

Day 1

Mumbai campers to report at the Mumbai Central Railway Station at 2000 hrs.
Depart from Mumbai by Golden Temple Mail (Train No.2903) at 2125 hrs.
Day 2 Arrive Nizamuddin at 1830 hrs and transfer to the AC bus for Manali.
Day 3 Arrive at Prini campsite in Manali around 1400 hrs and settle down. Briefing and orientation. Issue of equipment - Rucksack and Windproof Jacket.
