Manali

Manali, situated in northern Kullu Valley, in Himachal Pradesh, derived its name from Manavalaya. i.e. the abode of Manu. According to myth, Manu the divine law-giver, was the only survivor of the Mahajalpralay - the great flood - and is said to have fathered the human race. He certainly chose the most enchanting environs.

Manali still maintains its charm and beauty. With the majestic Himalayan ranges of Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal on one side, river Beas cutting across the town, verdant valleys with rolling meadows, grazing herds dotting the hillsides, apple orchards and the folk music adding romance to the ambience, Manali presents a wondrous canvas to the traveler.

TREKS AND VISITS -

Jogini Falls - The path leads through the village of Vashishta, famous for its hot water springs, and after a short climb opens out onto the breathtaking Jogini falls. This is a favorite with the campers since they enjoy traversing the cave like structure that takes them right behind the falls without getting wet.

Lammergeyer Point - This lofty mountain peak is named after the bearded vulture that soars high above the mountains. ( Lammergeyer incidentally has the longest wing span in the Indian bird kingdom. ) The peak affords an excellent view of the Manali valley.

Hadimba Temple and the Temple of Manu - A trek through conifer forest brings you to the Hadimba Temple, a four-storeyed temple of unusual architecture. The same trail also leads to the Temple of Manu after whom Manali is named.

Bhrigu Lake - A full day trek with a major part of the trail leading through snow, Bhrigu is the most challenging and the most breath-taking treks of Manali. The trek leads to the sacred Bhrigu lake which is frozen most of the summer.

Manali Market - Shop here for souvenirs, shawls and colourful fur caps. You can also visit the fast food joints and taste the local delicacy 'momos'.

ACTIVITIES -
